The hanger was invented by a worker named Albert Parkhouse. At that time, he was a blacksmith making lampshades for a wire and small handicraft company in Michigan, USA. One day he was annoyed to find that all the coat hooks in the factory cloakroom had been occupied. He angrily took out a piece of lead wire and bent it into a coat. The shape of the shoulders and added hooks on top. This invention was owned and patented by his boss, which is the origin of the hanger.

Clothes hanger is a kind of furniture that appeared earlier in my country. The Zhou Dynasty began to implement the ritual system, and the nobles attached great importance to clothing. In order to meet this need, racks specially used to hang clothing appeared earlier. Different dynasties had different forms of hangers and different names. During the Spring and Autumn Period, the wooden poles of the horizontal frame were used to hang clothes, which was called "truss", also called "wooden shi".

In the Song Dynasty, the use of hangers was more common than in the previous dynasties, and there are figurative materials. The hanger in the dressing picture of the Song Tomb in Yuxian County, Henan Province is supported by two columns to support a crossbar, and the two ends of the crossbar grow out of columns. Slightly upturned and shaped into a flower shape. The lower part uses two horizontal wooden piers to stabilize the column, and between the two columns at the lower part of the upper horizontal bar, an additional horizontal beam is added for reinforcement.

The overall shape of the hangers in the Ming Dynasty still maintains the traditional model, but the materials, production and decoration are particularly refined. The lower end of the hanger is made of two pieces of pier wood. The inner and outer sides are embossed with fringe patterns. The piers are planted with uprights. The upper and lower parts of the standing teeth are connected with the columns and the piers by tenons. The two piers are installed with lattices of small pieces of wood. Since the lattices have a certain width, shoes and other objects can be placed. On the lower side of the junction of each horizontal material and the column, there is an openwork kidnapper pattern to support it. From the selection of materials, design, and carving, the hangers have reached a high artistic level in the Ming Dynasty.

The Ming and Qing Dynasties hangers are elegant in shape, exquisite in decoration, meticulous in carving and bright in lacquer color. Officials in Ming and Qing Dynasties wore black gauze red tassel hats, and wore robes with coiled collars and horseshoe sleeves with patchwork at the front and back. Therefore, in the Qing Dynasty, the hangers were tall, and there were horizontal bars on the standing columns. It is called a gantry when it is placed on the crossbar. The Qing Dynasty implemented the policy of "easy clothes" and promoted wearing Manchu clothing. The clothes of people with money and status are composed of silk and satin embroidered with flowers and phoenixes. Therefore, the prosperity, dignity, and size of clothes hangers in the Qing Dynasty are the characteristics of this period and the difference from other times.

In the Qing Dynasty, hangers, also commonly known as "chao clothing racks", were mainly used for hanging men's official uniforms. Therefore, all the main beams of the hangers are like two double dragons with their heads raised, lying there proudly, symbolizing the prosperity of the official transport, and the rest are like " "Fu", "Lu", "Shou" and various decorative flower decorations further emphasize their values.

The ancient clothes racks have a new evolution and development in modern times. The combination of traditional styles and modern practical functions has produced new household products with a unique charm.
